"JUDGED BEST IN SHOW" by Fine Woodworking Magazine
Judged First place by the San Diego Fine Woodworking Association:
At the annual 2004 Design in Wood Exhibition
Title: "Drinks Cabinet"
Dimensions: 38" x 21" x 46" (96cm x 53cm x
116cm)
Design: The idea for this piece was spawned from the portfolio
of Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, Genius of Art Deco. Supporting the cabinet
are four elegant legs, all of the fuseau a facets type. Eight facets
veneered with sawn and book matched Macassar ebony, divided by bone
stringing1mm wide. The bottoms of the legs are shod with ivory,
and the top of each leg is set with an ivory pearl. The cabinet's
exterior is wrapped in sawn Macassar ebony veneer on both sides,
as well as the back. At the top of the cabinet, framed in sumptuous
curves of the ogee, is a raised rectangular panel veneered with
Amboina burl. It too is decorated with the diamond pattern in bone
stringing, as are the two doors of this cabinet. All inlays are
1mm wide. The interior of the cabinet is veneered with sawn figured
mahogany. In the center of the cabinet's floor, is a racetrack shaped
tray in silver plate, for the placement of bottles of fine liqueurs.
To either side of this are glass shelves for storing glasses.
The finish on this piece is a classical French polish, and the interior
and underside are hand rubbed shellac. Protein glue was used throughout
the construction of this cabinet; all materials employed here are
historically proven to be highly archival, with proper care.
Materials: Macassar ebony and Amboina veneers over oak and
alder carcass; antique ivory, bone stringing, and shellac. Interior
is sawn figured mahogany veneer and shellac.
Price: $37,500.00
Title:
"Biedermier Tables"

Design: Based on Biedermier styling, the two tables have
scalloped pedestals veneered with sawn Macassar ebony. The tops
are done with a herringbone sunburst pattern assembled with Goncalo
Alves sawn veneer, as are the bases. The top and bases are edged
with a cross banding of Goncalo Alves and accented with ebony stringing.
The feet are made of solid Macassar ebony. Both tables are finished
with classical French polish, and contain time capsules along with
information on the materials used in their construction.
Materials: Macassar ebony, Goncalo Alves (Astronium fraxinifolium);
hide glue, shellac. The tops, pedestals, and bases disassemble for
shipping, or any necessary repairs, and finishing needs.
Price: $3500.00 ea.
Title:
"Coffee Table II"
Dimensions: 55" x 55" x 18.75"
Design: The idea for the aluminum legs comes from reading
too many issues of Street Chopper magazine. These legs are hand
shaped, then triple plated-show chromed. The top and apron of this
table were Art Deco inspired.
Materials: Legs are of aluminum with triple show chrome plating,
and shod with a piece of solid Macassar ebony. The field or top
of the table is made of Amboina burl veneer, (pterocarpus indicus),
and inlayed with faux ivory. The ogee frame is an alder wood substrate
and surfaced with Macassar ebony (diospyros celebica), sawn veneer
2mm thick. All woodwork is finished with wet sanded lacquer, then
meticulously hand rubbed to a silky satin sheen. The top and legs
are easily removable from the ebony ogee frame for transportation
and any needed repairs or refurbishment in the future as a result
of normal use: Hide glue construction throughout. Note: For
collectors and reproduction pieces, antique genuine ivory is still
legally obtainable from within the continental United States.
Price: $18,500.00
